Why do we need less government and lower taxes? To anyone who has ever owned a business, bought a home, or filed their taxes this seems a ridiculous question to have to ask. That many bureaucrats actually do not understand this is dumbfounding. Consider this: By the end of this decade, London will be the financial center of the world, surpassing our own New York City. The European stock market is poised to pass the U.S. stock market in value for the first time since before WWI.

Our economic supremacy is tightly coupled to our ability to defend ourselves and provide for the well-being of our families. It requires a great deal of money to protect our citizenry at home and abroad. To do so, we must stop the growing assault on small business that comes in the form of higher taxes and government regulations. We must instead inspire and encourage the entrepreneurial spirit that propelled America throughout our relatively short history to a globally dominant economy.

Throughout recorded history, a nation’s liberties have been proportional to the size of the government. The current trend in our country is toward higher taxes, larger government, increased regulation and growing government subsidies. By the way, both Democrats and Republicans shoulder the blame for these trends. According to Americans for Tax Reform president Grover Norquist, the modern conservative movement's goal is to cut the cost of government as a percentage of the economy in half over the next 25 years - one generation. Why, then, has federal spending as a percentage of national income increased while Republicans controlled the House, the Senate and the presidency?

Washington’s tendency to increase the size of government and over-regulate business has slowly and subtly undermined our position as an economic superpower. This is the central theme of my candidacy. This will be my drumbeat on practically every ancillary issue. Small government and lower taxes will create greater tax revenues and a strong economy.
