7, 2008 - Dean Scontras Earns "A" Grade From Sportsman's Alliance
of Maine
Strong Rating Shows Scontras is "A Good Choice for
Sportsmen"
PORTLAND - The Sportsman's Alliance
of Maine Political Action Committee (SAM PAC) awarded their
highest grade of "A" to Dean Scontras, candidate
in the Republican Primary in the 1st Congressional District.
The Sportsman's Alliance of Maine is Maine's largest sportsmen's
organization with a full-time headquarters and staff in Augusta.
"The fact that you were awarded our highest grade indicates
to our members, and other sportsmen, that you are a good choice
for sportsmen," said SAM Executive Director George Smith
in a letter to the campaign.
Former Senate Republican Leader and SAM Board Member Paul
Davis (R-Sangerville) was among those who reviewed Scontras'
responses to the survey questions. "I was very impressed
with Dean's desire to protect the sportsman's access to the
Maine woods," said Davis. "His intention to submit
legislation that prohibits the use of any federal money to
purchase land that restricts public use is a big reason why
I support his candidacy."
SAM Board Member and L.L. Bean Project Manager Jim Gorman
said, "I was first attracted to Dean's candidacy by his
strong support for the 2nd Amendment. His answers to the SAM
PAC Candidate Survey further prove to me that Dean is a candidate
that Maine sportsmen will be proud to have representing them
in Washington."
"Earning SAM's highest rating means a great deal to
me and my campaign," said Scontras.
"Maine's rich heritage of hunting, fishing, trapping
and snowmobiling has been largely responsible for protecting
Maine's outdoors. I want my two children to be able to enjoy
these activities just as I was able to do growing up in Kittery.
Maintaining access to Maine's woods for these activities must
be a priority, and Maine's sportsmen will have a strong advocate
when I am elected to serve them in Congress," concluded
Scontras.
SAM was organized in 1975 as a non-profit membership organization
to promote conservation of Maine's wildlife resources and
to be an advocate for hunters, anglers, trappers and gun owners
throughout the state.
Dean Scontras is a third-generation Maine native, born and
raised in Kittery, and a graduate of the University of Maine.
Dean resides in Eliot with his wife Dawn and their two children,
Jack and Zoe. For more information about the Dean Scontras
